Port Blair, May 21: As part of the economic measures under Atma Nirbhar Bharat (ANB) scheme announced by the Government of India to mitigate the hardships faced by the stranded migrants due to lockdown imposed as per COVID19 guidelines, the Central Government allocated Rice and Chana to be distributed free of cost for two months. The food Corporation of India provided Rice to this Department whereas Chana whole shall be made available by NAFED at the earliest. According to this scheme, those stranded migrants who are not covered under Public Distribution System i.e. not issued with Ration Cards in this UT shall be provided with Rice @ 5Kg per person and Chana whole @ 1Kg per household free of cost for two months (i.e. May and June, 2020).

To establish the credibility of the claims of the stranded migrants, this Department is working in close coordination with the Labour Department and District Administration and in the process of scrutinising the list of potential recipients provided by these Departments to avoid any leakage and to ensure that the allocation reaches the bonafide beneficiaries as desired by the Government of India. Apart from this, those migrant labourers who have not registered their names with the Labour Department or District Administration are hereby informed to furnish their details including Name, Present Address, Aadhar Card number/valid Government ID and Contact number alongwith Name & Contact number of Employer/Contractor to the Directorate of Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs via the Control Room over Toll free Phone No. 18003453197 and on Ph. No. 03192-234062. It is also to mention that in order to strictly adhere to the norms of social distancing enforced by the Administration; the Department will not be entertaining any registration in person.
