Port Blair, June 9: The Electricity Department, A&N Administration is pleased to inform the general public of A&N Islands that reduced Electricity Tariff shall be applicable to the Consumers under Domestic, Commercial and Industrial categories consumers to become prosumers (producing consumers) by installing Solar PV on their building roofs or other available areas.

The JERC has appreciated the Administration’s efforts to reduce diesel generation which shall bring down the average cost of supply and accordingly approved the reduced tariffs for Domestic, Commercial, and Industrial categories installing Solar on their roofs are other available areas equivalent to 15% of their connected load/contract demand or 25% of the roof area whichever is less.

This separate solar tariff for prosumers is being introduced for the first time in the UTs under the jurisdiction of JERC. With the installation of Solar Power Plant by the consumers in their premises, they will be able to reduce their power consumption from the grid. This will bring down the energy charges on account of separate solar tariff and reduced power consumption and migration of consumer in all the categories (Domestic, Commercial and Industrial) from higher slab to lower slab.
