Port Blair, June 14: PBMC has been conducting eviction drives against the illegal vendors & Private / Municipal Shop owners at various market places such as Ratnam Market and Mohanpura Market.

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Govt. of India has issued advisory that “COVID -19 has significantly impacted our cities, especially in the realm of market places. As cites look to ease the lockdown, it is important to provide safe, affordable and equitable movement and also ensure social distancing in the market spaces. The public streets need to be reimagined to make them pedestrianized and people friendly”.

In view of the above guidelines, Illegal encroachment not only causes hindrance to pedestrians & people friendly movement but also utterly violating Social distance norms. On 13/06/2020, PBMC has removed illegal encroachers on the above said markets wherein vendors illegally occupied the public spaces.

The PBMC has once again appealed to all private & municipal shop tenants/owners to conduct their business activities within their premises. It is requested that kindly follow protocols in letter & spirit so that protect yourself and others too, said the Secretary, PBMC in a communication.
