Port Blair, June 24: The Department of Telecommunications, Ministry of Communications, Universal Service Obligation Fund, New Delhi is planning the commissioning of two segments of Chennal Andaman Nicobar Islands (CANI) Submarine Optical Fibre Cable Connectivity with effect from 1st July 2020.

In a letter addressed to all DOT Licensees, with copies marked to the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration and other authorities, the Director (VSB) USOF mentioned, “… It is hereby informed that USOF/ DOT is planning to commission S1 (Chennai to Port Blair) & S6 (Port Blair to Swaraj Dweep) segments under CANI Project w.e.f 1st July 2020”.

It was also requested by the Director (VSB) USOF to make suitable arrangements for CANI bandwidth utilization at the earliest in order to provide appropriate bandwidth and Telecom connectivity at Port Blair & Swaraj Dweep in Andaman & Nicobar Islands. Further it was requested to start required acitivities such as installation of equipments, cables etc. at Chennai, Port Blair and Swaraj Dweep in coordination with BSNL.
