Port Blair, July 10: In a bid to spread awareness and curbing the spread of the horrifying corona virus, a group of youth volunteers today conducted a sanitisation and awareness drive at STS Bus Terminus, Mohanpura. The drive was conducted in association with the Directorate of Transport, A&N Administration.

The youths hailing from different walks of life viz. doctors, engineers, bureaucrats, students and so forth, who had come together with a motto “Sanitization Drive for Social Awareness”. 

To begin with, the volunteers sanitised the passengers and distributed facemasks free of cost in order to ensure the safety of the passengers. Later, information on sanitisation and social distancing was discriminated, which was followed by a demonstration on safety measures.

An explanation of do’s and don’ts and demonstration was given to the conductors, so that they could ensure preventive measures and social distancing while in the bus. Information about different types of masks its durability was also explained by the volunteers.

Speaking to Andaman Chronicle, the volunteers explained that the planning for such awareness programmes had been going on since a month and it could be realized today, with the active support of the Directorate of Transport. People sharing the same vision had come together for this noble cause.

The volunteers also said that they have planned to conduct more such awareness programmes once every week. It might be a torch bearer and inspiration for others to come forward and offer their services. The members also thanked the Director Transport and the local authorities for the support and cooperation.
