Port Blair, July 22: Acting swiftly on the tip of credible information Mayabunder Police unit has recovered 34 plastic bags of Trochus weighing around 2000 Kgs from Dottrel Island, Wildlife sanctuary under Mayabunder jurisdiction on 20/07/2020.

The Mayabunder police acted promptly on the basis of credible information that a large number of plastic bags containing some solid articles have been spotted at Dottrel Island under Mayabunder. Upon receiving this information a police team headed by Inspr. K. Binoj, SHO PS Mayabunder, SI K.V. Abdul Salam, HC V.K. Abdul Kalam, PCs Prakash Singh & Hemant Pratap Singh and HG Saw Ayeisat with Arms & Ammunition proceeded to Dottrel Island by PMF boat. After reaching the Dottrel Island a thorough search was carried out and on inspection it was found that 34 Nos. of plastic bags containing Trochus which is banned under Wildlife Protection Act, 1972 are lying hidden in the jungle. Accordingly, all the bags were seized under Wildlife Protection Act, 1972 on the spot and were later handed over to Forest Official for further proceedings.
