COVID-19 Infection Rate at the Rate of 0.02 per cent in Andamans is Leading Islanders in a Dangerous Direction: Vishal Jolly

Port Blair, Aug 9: Meanwhile the Ex-State President, Shri Vishal Jolly apprised the Prime Minister that 0.27 percentage of population of Andaman & Nicobar Islands have been affected due to COVID-19 as on date, which is increasing at the rate of 0.02 per cent on an average per day. The progress of COVID-19 infection in the islands is projecting a dangerous situation for the islanders. Our Union Territory is a very small territory with limited facilities.

While fighting the dreaded pandemic COVID-19, as many as 42 of our frontline warriors i.e Doctors, have been infected by the virus. Paramedical staff, Police, Sanitary workers, officers of Disaster Management and workers have also been infected in large numbers. The situation is such that in the absence of Doctors and paramedics, the Primary Health Centres, Community Health Centres are on the verge of closure.

The rate of death due to the pandemic is increasing day by day in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. He appreciated the Prime Minister for having fulfilled his promise to the citizens by operating special flights during the pandemic for the islanders, people in the mainland and people who were stuck abroad by reaching relief. Along with the rest of the world, the people of A&N Islands have high hopes on you. We firmly believe that during the current scenario, it is your special schemes and help which will help the islanders.  We strongly believe that with you as the Prime Minister, we can expect all support and help.

He thanked the Prime Minister for the video conferencing which has enabled the islanders to have a face to face conversation with the Prime Minister.
