Port Blair, Sept. 10: Ebrahim Jadwet, an entrepreneur and Secretary of Nicobar Chamber of Commerce and Industries has attended the ‘World Island Summit 2020’ virtually yesterday.

Speaking for Andaman & Nicobar Islands at the summit, Ebrahim gave an insight on the Government’s development plan in renewable energy sector and also encouraged young entrepreneurs to come forward to focus on solar and wind energy, which is essential for the sustainable development of these islands and will minimize our dependency on fuel. 

He said, it’s a great opportunity to connect with the business and political leaders from various islands around the globe and learn each other’s development plan. He also invited the audience to visit these beautiful islands once the Covid situation improves to explore its natural pristine beauty. He appreciated the local Administration on commissioning various solar projects and emphasized that more needs to be done in coming years for green energy.

The Virtual Island Summit is a one week zero carbon summit that began on 7th of September 2020 where more than 10,000 registered attendees from various island nations and island territories participate in various sessions to focus on sustainable development of islands. Some of the speakers at this year’s summit include Prime Ministers of Fiji, St. Vincent islands, Guyana, and representatives of United Nations, Ministers, Members of various European and Island Nation Parliaments, business leaders, researchers and academically renowned leaders. The summit was moderated by James Ellsmoor, founder of Island Innovations.
