Port Blair, Sept. 15: The Dy. Commissioner, South Andaman along with SDM (SA), AC (UT) inaugurated various projects which includes Multipurpose Hall at Ferrargunj, laying of foundation stone for Multilevel Fish Market at Wimberlygunj. The team also visited the Mini Stadium at Wimberlygunj and Indoor Stadium at Kanyapuram.

The Multipurpose hall at Ferrargunj is being developed under the supervision of PRI and in line with the Principles of Democratic Decentralisation. It would serve as a place for regular meetings of Panchayat, Self Help Groups and other tiny weekly melas.

The DC also laid the foundation stone for the construction of Multi Level Fish Market at Wimberlygunj under RURBAN. The project is expected to benefit the fishing community in and around Wimberlygunj area.

During the visit, the DC (SA) interacted with the community representatives regarding water conservation/ preservation and requested the Pradhans to take up the above projects under MGNREGA at the earliest.

During his visit to the Mini Stadium at Wimberlygunj, the DC interacted with the ZP Member, Sarpanch and other community representatives and discussed various issues related to development of the Panchayat. The project of Multi Stadium is being taken up under RURBAN Mission and the work has been awarded.

While visiting the Indoor Stadium at Kanyapuram, issues regarding improvising the amenities and incorporating various facilities such as sit out places, proper lighting and gardens were deliberated in detail. The DC ensured that necessary action will be taken immediately.

Interacting with the PRIs and general public, the DC (SA) urged them to follow the golden principles of wearing masks properly and maintaining social distancing to fight against COVID-19.
