Port Blair, Sept. 17: Shri. Ajoy Bairagi, State President, Bharatiya Janata Party has written a letter to Shri. Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India and Shri. Amit Shah, Union Minister of Home Affairs requesting them to start International Flights from Veer Savarkar International Airport, Port Blair. In his letter, Bairagi mentioned that the economy of Andaman & Nicobar Islands now completely relies on Tourism Industry. He said that the Tourism Industry in Andaman & Nicobar Islands is also the largest employment provider in the Islands.

Veer Savarkar International Airport has been designated as an International Airport since a long time but International flights from Port Blair have not yet started. The construction of the new terminal building is underway at Veer Savarkar International Airport which is soon expected to complete, enhancing the passenger handling capacity.

Bairagi demanded that International Flight operations from Veer Savarkar International Airport be started and he also informed that the airlines will be immensely benefited if they introduce stops in Port Blair for their international flights because of the strategic location.

He further requested that Govt. of India may also chalk out plans to provide incentives to airlines though various schemes like Udaan so that more and more airlines should be interested in starting international flights from Port Blair.
