Port Blair, Oct. 22: The State President, Bharatiya Janata Party, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Shri. Ajoy Bairagi has greeted the Islanders on the occasion of Durga Puja.

Durga Puja is a prominent festival celebrated in the Islands and every year. During Durga Puja people visit various puja pandals and offer their prayers to Maa Durga. The festival marks the victory of goddess Durga in her battle against asura Mahishasura, thus the festival epitomises the victory of good over evil. Four prominent days of the festival lies ahead of us and Shri. Ajoy Bairagi wishes everyone a happy and prosperous Durga Puja.

The COVID-19 pandemic has grappled the world this year and the Islanders with our fellow countrymen have lost a lot in the fight against COVID-19. We have lost both economically and also precious human lives. The fight against COVID-19 is not yet over and this is the time to be more careful than ever. The Hon’ble Prime Minister, Narendra Modi has given the mantra of 2 gaj ki doori, which is one of the two most important precautionary measures to fight against this pandemic the other one being covering of face in public places at all times.

Bairagi has requested the Islanders to follow the protocols of COVID-19 seriously and adhere to all Govt. norms to save themselves, their family and the society from the pandemic.

“This year we may face some restrictions in visiting puja pandals and the puja might not seem like every year, but this auspicious festival of Durga Puja will give us strength to fight against this pandemic and come out even stronger. For the humanity to survive and strive it is necessary that we all adhere to the COVID-19 protocols and take responsibility for ourselves and our families”, said Bairagi.
