Port Blair, Nov. 20: Considering ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and consequential adverse impact on imparting training for in-service police personnel, the Andaman & Nicobar Police has initiated short courses at Police Training School, Prothrapur on virtual platform. 

Shri Dependra Pathak, IPS, Director General of Police inaugurated the half day online course on “Women and Child Safety” on 20.11.2020. In his inaugural speech, DGP, ANI said that women complainants need to be dealt with sympathetically. He further emphasized that, there is a need for greater sensitivity in handling women & child safety.

The objective of the course is to enhance the knowledge and skills of the police personnel to deal with the issues related to women and child safety. During the session, Inspector Girish Kumar, Chief Law Instructor and Sub-Inspector D.K. Seal delivered lectures on overview and legal provisions on women & child safety by screening power point presentation.

During valediction session, the Inspector General of Police (HQ), Shri Sanjay Kumar Jain, IPS, emphasized that this course aims for professional approach for investigating cases related to women & child safety and also to empower them with the required professionalism, in terms of knowledge, skills and attitudes. He expressed satisfaction that this programme has provided a useful platform to the participants to learn the law provisions and nuances of investigation on crimes related to women & children. He further emphasized that need more online courses need to be organized for updated on legal provision procedures. .

Altogether, around 75 Police officers & staff of various units participated in the course.
