Food Safety Commissioner Directs Restaurants to Maintain Highest Level of Hygiene and Sanitation

Port Blair, Dec. 17: The Food Safety Department in continuation of their efforts for ensuring the availability of safe, hygienic and wholesome food to the general public carried out surprise inspections at various Restaurants of South Andaman District. Two teams of Food Safety Officers inspected around 107 restaurants and noticed major and minor violations of the provisions of Food Safety and Standards Act, Rules and Regulations.

Cases were registered against four restaurants for major violations and 51 restaurants have been served improvement notices for minor violations with the directions to rectify the defects within stipulated time period.

Further through mobile Food Testing Laboratory 41 numbers of awareness campaigns were organized at various places of the district to sensitize food business operators as well as general public about good hygienic practices and good manufacturing practices. Altogether 441 food business operators and 330 public attended the programmes.  

The Commissioner of Food Safety, A&N Islands/Dy. Commissioner, South Andaman has directed all the restaurants to maintain highest level of sanitary and hygienic conditions in their respective premises and follow the 12 golden rules of FSSAI.
