Port Blair, Feb 15: Deen Dayal Upadhyay Grameen Kaushalya Yojna (DDU-GKY) is a Centrally Sponsored Scheme of the Ministry of Rural Development that aims to skill the underserved, rural youth in order to provide them with a regular source of income. DDU-GKY is a skilling and placement initiative with the objective to “transform rural poor youth into an economically independent and globally relevant workforce”.

For the effective implementation of the scheme in the UT of Andaman & Nicobar Islands the newly recruited State level Officials deployed for DDU-GKY underwent a week-long Induction Training programme in NIRD&PR, Hyderabad with the aim of furthering rural livelihood opportunities and empowering the youth to find meaningful skill and placement within and outside this UT.

As part of the Exposure Tour the team visited the Training centre’s established by Project Implementing Agencies (PIAs) in different districts of Telangana. Wherein, the training Centre’s Infrastructure Inspection, Assessment &Certification of the Training Centre’s was  done by the Team under the supervision of NIRD&PR.

The training specifically included a module on Kaushal Aapti (Psychometric tool), which is a technology enabled application developed by NIRD&PR. It is a mobile/Web application to map rural youth’s interest with jobs that they can get skilled in.

A brief was given on E- Gramswaraj- eLearning Portal which includes, Kaushal Praveen, Personal Advancement and Career Enhancement (P.A.C.E.) Soft Skill Training of Trainers (TOT)& Process and Computer Skills.Subsequently, English &Soft Skill Trainers nominated by Nodal Agencies can be given access to the learning path to the PIA trainers.

The training conducted for the State level Officials covering the initial phase has proved to be quite insightful and would go a long way for effective implementation of the DDU-GKY Scheme in Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
