Port Blair, March 10: The Government of India has decided to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of India’s Independence in a befitting manner at National and International level. The programmes for celebration shall begin 75 weeks prior to 15th August, 2022.      The celebrations will be launched by the Prime Minister on 12th March, 2021 that marks the anniversary of the Dandi March. On this day, events related to ‘Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav’ will unfold in the country and the celebration will also be simultaneously launched in A&N Islands. To celebrate the events in A&N Islands, a UT level Apex Committee has been constituted under the chairmanship of the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration.

The main event of the launch of India @75 on March 12 in the Islands will begin with floral tribute to the freedom fighters by Admiral DK Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd.), Lt Governor, A&N Islands at Martyrs’ Column, National Memorial Cellular Jail. This will be followed by a Freedom Run from National Memorial Cellular Jail to Flag Point. Other events planned include musical tribute to the heroes of our freedom struggle at National Memorial Cellular Jail, organizing Seminar at JNRM, Port Blair, essay competitions at Govt. Model Sr. Sec. School, Port Blair and an exhibition on Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose at National Memorial Cellular Jail.
