Need to Strictly Adhere to COVID-19 Protocol & COVID Appropriate Behavior Stressed

Port Blair, April 18: The number of corona positive cases is increasing in A&N Islands which is quite alarming and poses a great challenge for the Administration despite the best efforts to contain the spread of the virus. This was stated by the Secretary, IP&T, Shri Sunil Kumar Singh addressing a COVID-19 media briefing in the conference hall of IP&T today. Giving details of the number of positive cases detected today during RAT conducted at Port Blair, the Secretary said till 2 pm, 21 cases have been detected. Out of this, 18 were flight passengers, 1 from Mohanpura Bus Stand, 1 from Jetty area and another from Ferrargunj.

He once again reiterated the need to strictly adhere to COVID-19 protocol and urged the people to follow COVID appropriate behavior and avoid unnecessary travel. 

Informing about the vaccination drive being carried out in different parts of the Islands, he said it is going on smoothly and today till 1 pm about 1000 people have been vaccinated. He also said, the Administration is reaching out to the remote areas of the Islands to vaccinate eligible beneficiaries and he also referred to Makrety Valley in N&M Andaman District where vaccination was carried out. 

The Secretary further informed that 984 rooms in 46 hotels have been identified for treating asymptomatic persons. Similarly, 285 beds have been placed at COVID Care Centres / Govt. Guest Houses.

The Director (ANIIMS), Dr. A.K. Mondal, Deputy Director GB Pant Hospital, Shri Amitabha De also addressed the media and replied to the queries raised by the media persons.

The Director (IP&T), Shri Alok Kumar said 11 flights arrived today carrying about 1000 passengers. The Deputy Director, IP, Shri RS Meena also attended the press conference.
