Port Blair, July 30: In an unfortunate incident, Lieutenant Amogh Bapat of the Indian Navy died on 25th  Jul 21 in the massive landslide near Basteri bridge in Sangla Valley of Kinnaur, Himachal Pradesh. The 27 year old bright and jovial officer was posted at Indian Naval Ship Baaz (INS Baaz), Campbell Bay, which is the southernmost Naval Air Station in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. He was an Air Engineer and was recently awarded with On the Spot Commendation by Lieutenant General Ajai Singh, AVSM, Commander-in-Chief Andaman and Nicobar Command (CINCAN) for high standards of professionalism and dedication.

The mortal remains were initially brought to Chandigarh and then airlifted to Raipur. They were subsequently taken to his native place Korba in Chattisgarh and handed over to the family with military grace wherein his mortal remains were laid to rest.

A wreath laying ceremony with befitting military honours was conducted during the funeral and wreaths were laid on behalf of Chief of Naval Staff, CINCAN and the Naval Component Commander, Port Blair. Concurrently, a wreath laying ceremony was also conducted by his parent unit at INS Baaz, Campbell Bay as a tribute to the deceased officer.
