Port Blair, July 30: The Member of Parliament of Andaman & Nicobar Island, Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the Chief Secretary of Andaman and Nicobar Administration to reduce the quarantine period for incoming passengers in Swaraj Dweep, Shaheed Dweep and Little Andaman Islands to only 3 days from existing 10 days.

In a letter mailed to the Chief Secretary, the Member of Parliament pointed out that for containing the spread of virus, previously the Quarantine period for all incoming passengers to Swaraj Dweep, Shaheed Dweep and Little Andaman Islands was fixed to 10 days.

He said that now when situation has more or less normalized and COVID-19 positive cases are very less in Andaman Nicobar Island this 10 days quarantine period for incoming passengers at Swaraj Dweep, Shaheed Dweep and Little Andaman Islands is causing great deal of inconvenience to great public.

The Member of Parliament further said that in entire North and Middle Andaman region quarantine period has been reduced to only 3 days for the convenience of public and to boost economic activities but the quarantine period for Swaraj Dweep, Shaheed Dweep and Little Andaman Islands has not been reduced and still people visiting these Islands, even in case of emergency, are forced to remain in 10 days mandatory quarantine, which is not only inconvenient but also causes financial loss to public.

The MP mentioned that reduction in quarantine period to 03 days will bring great relief or general public and also help in boosting economic activities in these three Islands.
