LG, First Lady interact with students & teachers of Jammu & Kashmir

Port Blair, Feb 22: Hon’ble Lt Governor, Admiral DK Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd.) and the First Lady of these Islands, Smt Chitra Joshi interacted today at Raj Niwas with a group of students and teachers from the State of Jammu & Kashmir who are on a visit to these Islands. The students and teachers of J&K also had a glimpse of Raj Niwas estate. They were fascinated to see the eco-walk, garden, medicinal & ornamental plants and other attractions of Raj Niwas.  

Earlier, interacting with the students, the Hon’ble Lt Governor greeted them and blessed them to do well in their careers and contribute actively in the nation building process. He informed that the visit of the students of J&K to the A&N Islands is part of the student exchange programme, wherein students of both J&K and A&N Islands have visited each other State/UT. Students of J&K also shared their experience of the A&N Islands visit on the occasion.

The student exchange programme between A&N Islands and J&K, signifying Northernmost and Southernmost locations of our country, was initiated with the efforts of Hon’ble Lt Governor of A&N Islands and Hon’ble Governor of J&K, with the aim to foster the spirit of National Integration among the students as well as enabling the students to know about the history and rich cultural heritage of these places. The students from J&K have been welcomed with open arms by the general public and the business fraternity of the Islands, as transportation as well as water sports activities were facilitated through Andaman Chamber of Commerce & Industries. The transportation logistics for the students from Port Blair to Havelock was facilitated by MAK Logistics Pvt Ltd Group by providing free tickets in M V Makruzz. Similarly, the water sports activities were sponsored by Hotel Seashell, Port Blair.

The group of 40 students and five teachers of the State of Jammu & Kashmir are on a visit to the A&N Islands from 20 to 22 Feb 2018. During their stay in the Islands, the students visited various places of tourist interest and historical importance, including National Memorial Cellular Jail and the Havelock Island. They also visited Govt. Model Sr. Secondary School, Port Blair on 20th Feb 2018, and interacted with the students there.

As part of the exchange programme, a group of 15 students and four teachers from the A&N Islands had earlier visited J&K from 29th October to 4th November 2017. The tour was educational and motivational for the students of the Islands as it provided them an insight into the rich cultural heritage of J&K as well as to enjoy the natural beauty.
