Port Blair, Jan. 11: In a well-coordinated Joint Operation, Indian Coast Guard ship ICGS Durgabai Deshmukh and Naval Ship INS Bangaram rescued 75 Myanmarese nationals at Barren Island on 10th  Jan 2013.

During routine surveillance, the Coast Guard Dornier, reported sighting of foreign nationals stranded at Barren Island at 1235 hrs on 9th Jan. On receiving the information, the Coast Guard Regional Headquarters immediately pressed into action and the Coast Guard Ship Durgabai Deshmukh patrolling in Andaman Sea was diverted at around 1400 hrs on the same day for rescue of stranded personnel. HQANC also diverted INS Bangaram in NGI for support.

Both the ships arrived off Barren Island in late night. The Coast Guard Ship Durgabai Deshmukh alongwith INS Bangaram launched the challenging rescue operation in adverse weather condition with the first light on 10th Jan and successfully rescued 75 Myanmarese Nationals and handed them over to the police.
