Port Blair, Feb. 7: Air Marshal PK Roy AVSM VM VSM Commander-in-Chief Andaman & Nicobar Command visited Navy, Army and Coast Guard units at Campbell Bay on 5th & 6th Feb 13. The CINCAN was accompanied by Naval Component Commander, Command Works Officer and rep of Chief Engineer (A & N). During this maiden visit, the CINCAN reviewed readiness of the units to respond to any contingency and evaluated the ongoing and future infrastructure developmental projects at Army, Navy and Cost Guard Establishments at Campbell Bay.

The C-in-C also assessed the plan for runway extension of INS Baaz and equipping the station with modern airfield instruments and navaids. It is pertinent to mention that INS Baaz, which was commissioned on 31st Jul 12, is the forward operating Air Base located at the Southern tip of the Andaman and Nicobar group of islands and also provides Air Traffic Control services to both civil and military aircraft operating in Southern group of islands.

INS Baaz is currently equipped to operate light to heavy aircraft capable of short field operations from the runway of about 3500 feet.

In an informal gathering in the evening, the C-in-C interacted with the uniformed personnel, civil authorities and Ex-Servicemen residing at Campbell Bay.
