Port Blair, May 6: In a video conference held by the Secretary, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, GoI to review the progress of the scheme, it emerged that Andaman and Nicobar Administration has become the first among the States and UTs to cover 99% beneficiaries by distributing three months quota of rice and Dal to such poor and needy persons despite the tough geographical locations of the Islands and extremely difficult transportation challenges.  

As per the decision of the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, GoI, in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, A&N Administration distributed three months quota of rice and pulses to the poor people under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PM-GKAY) free of cost.

The Ministry has expressed happiness and satisfaction on the achievement made by the UT Administration and also admired being among the top leading States/UT in the implementation of PM-GKAY.
