Port Blair, May 6: The area constituting Round Basti, Dignabad, Atlanta Point, Mohanpura and Sisty Nagar was constituted as a Containment Area (Zone 1) by the Andaman & Nicobar Administration after the detection of the initial cases of COVID-19 in the area.

After the detection of last case on 30th March 2020, the containment operations were scaled down in the area on 2nd May 2020, with the Administration allowing opening of shops selling essential commodities.

After the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare’s updated directions on Containment Zones, which  stated that the containment operation shall be deemed to be over 28 days from the discharge of the last confirmed case following negative tests as per discharge policy, the Andaman & Nicobar Administration has declared the containment operations in the areas as ‘over’. However surveillance will be continued for ILI/ SARI.

The Dy. Commissioner, South Andaman (DCSA) has issued directions to the SHO to keep strict vigil in the areas to ensure that the instructions issued with regard to lockdown are being followed and shall also remove the restrictions on entry into and exit from the areas.

Every person in the area will have to maintain social distancing and no such person will come outside the house in any case without covering their face with 3-ply mask or handmade washable cloth masks.

The DCSA has also instructed the vendors, hawkers etc. to maintain proper hygiene and ensure social distancing and the local persons/ establishments inside the area may apply for movement permits from the Tehsildar, Port Blair.
