Port Blair, May 10: The Andaman Mopla Service Organisaion (AMSO) has appealed to the Muslim community to shop less and donate more in the times of Corona Virus pandemic.

In an appeal, the President and General Secretary of AMSO said. “As you are aware, the humankind across the globe is witnessing an unprecedented havoc caused due to the spread of Novel Corona Virus which is declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization”.

“The Islands although far away from the mainland and even farther than the epicenter of the outbreak - the Wuhan city of China was even not spared by this deadly virus. With the grace of the almighty and due to the sheer efforts of our Covid Warriors, we have been able to pass on through the first phase. However, the fight is still ON with self-discipline of social distancing and behavioral etiquettes.

“The Government of India in order to contain the spread of COVID-19 and with the aim to Break the Chain of this deadly virus imposed a series of nation wide lockdown. The step, which indeed was a boon in containing the virus, however turn out to be a bane for lakhs of daily wage earners and migrant labourers. The lives of daily wage earners, petty retailers, auto drivers and construction workers who depend on the limited daily income for their living were severely affected.

“Although, various efforts are being taken up by the Government and other Civil Society Organizations, it is imperative upon us as a community to stand with them during this difficult times by providing them all possible assistance in all possible ways.”

Considering the severity of the issue, AMSP has decided to launch a campaign called 'Shop less, Donate more'. As part of the campaign, all community members have been requested to refrain from Eid Shopping and other unethical and irresponsive spending and utilise the amount in extending help to the needy people around your vicinity.

“It is time for us to extend a helping hand to the lockdown affected individuals. We as a community do not want or wish to see our neighbours starve while we having a rather better life”, said a communication from the General Secretary, AMSO, Shri Siddique.
