Port Blair, June 24: On 23rd June 2020 at about 9.30 AM, the State Unit of Bharatiya Janata Party led by its State President Shri. Ajoy Bairagi alongwith few State Office bearers, Leaders and Karyakaras assembled at Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee Park in the morning and paid homage to one of its founder member Swargiya Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee by offering floral tributes on his death anniversary.

Thereafter, at about 10.00 AM, a programme in the State BJP office Hall was also organized as a mark of respect to the illustrious son of the India and a staunch nationalist. Few State office bearers including the State President Shri. Ajoy Bairagi spoke on the occasion and explained about several facets of his life and his contributions during freedom struggle. He was the one nationalist & true patriot who opposed grant of Special Status to Jammu & Kashmir and fought relentlessly for the complete integration of Jammu & Kashmir till his last breath.

He was an accomplished Barrister & Educationist and became the youngest ever Vice-Chancellor of Calcutta University at the age of 33 years. He left an indelible mark as independent India’s first Minister of Industry and Supply. He breathed his last in Srinagar under mysterious circumstances after being arrested on 11th May, 1953 at entry point in district Kathua, Jammu & Kashmir. Abrogation of Article 370 by the Modi Govt is a modest redemption of his supreme sacrifice.
