Port Blair, Feb. 19: The Nicobar District Administration has distributed compensation worth Rs. 4.75 crores to 44 land owners in Campbell bay, whose lands were sub-merged in the Tsunami of 2004.

The Assistant Commissioner, Campbell Bay, Shri R.S. Mehra handed over the cheques at a function held at the Recreation Hall, Campbell Bay on 18th Feb 2013.

To reach out to the infirm and elderly land owners who cannot come to Campbell Bay to collect their compensation, the Assistant Commissioner visited Vijay Nagar, Gandhi Nagar & Shastri Nagar areas and distributed the cheques to them at their doorsteps, as part of the LG’s Initiative “Prashasan Aapke Dwar”, which was well appreciated by the beneficiaries.

The District Administration will distribute the compensation to other affected farmers in Campbell Bay in the coming days. Tsunami affected land owners were already briefed about the process of disbursement of compensation to allay their fears on the compensation disbursal process.
