Port Blair, Feb. 20: During his tour to North & Middle Andaman, the Member of Parliament visited Gandhi Nagar on 27th Jan. 2013. Gandhi Nagar is a revenue village where the villagers have been issued licences for land in 2002 but Khatooni slip/ Sketch map has not been issued to them, as a result Land Masool is not being collected and the villagers are left out with basic facilities.

Explaining the situation at Gandhi Nagar, the MP in his letter to the Hon’ble President of India said that the village is not properly electrified and pipelines to reach water to the houses are yet to be put in place.

The MP requested the Hon’ble President of India to instruct the concerned authorities to provide Solar Home Lights to these Post 1978 encroachers at Gandhi Nagar, stating that electric lines have not been extended in ward no. 2 & 3 in the village. In many houses although electric connections are provided but they have been left out on the plea that there is shortage of electric post, service line etc.

He also said that no pipelines have been provided in the village although sources of water have been identified by the concerned departments.

The MP also demanded that an Agriculture Sub Depot and a Veterinary Sub Centre be provided at the village. He lastly mentioned that ferry services between Ariel Bay and Gandhi Nagar be improved with a 100 passenger capacity boat for the convenience of the commuters. Presently the villagers depend on a 50 seater fibre boat, which does not have safety rails and guards, risking the lives of the passengers.
