Port Blair, May 3: In the Capital city of Port Blair, the responsibility of management of solid waste lies with the Port Blair, Municipal Council. The Council has taken various initiatives in the past, but now due to efforts of civic body, the residents across ward No –9 were educated through awareness programmes to take up source segregation. And now they are silently turning over a new leaf and have started segregating waste at source, the result cleaner surroundings.

 

The initiative by PBMC “DO IT YOURSELF” has started with a good note but will succeed only if people are involved. Therefore, the PBMC plans to encourage the residents of other wards also and take scheme forward, said the Secretary PBMC today.

 

In this regard the Municipal Council is going to conduct a workshop for its supervisory staff on techniques to distinguish the wet and dry waste and also to educate them as how to encourage the residents to take – up source segregation. Together with ANET & ANPCC, the workshop will be organized on 4th May 2013 in the premises of Delanipur, Community Hall from 9.00 am.
