Port Blair, May 15: The PCC Vice President, Shri Hamid Ali and District President Shri RV Reddy today met Mrs Prema Cariappa, Chairperson, Central Social Welfare Board at Raj Niwas. At the outset both, Hamid and Reddy have thanked Madam Cariappa for selecting Andaman as the venue of National Conference of the Chairpersons, of Social Welfare Board.

On the occasion, Hamid Ali requested for increasing the number of family counselling centres in A&N Islands, sighting examples of increase in family disturbances, especially between husband and wife and in-laws etc. for which many families break up leaving behind their children to suffer. In such situation, many housewives who are neither financially sound nor qualified enough for a suitable jobs become the worst sufferers.

RV Reddy had also requested to increase the number of crèches throughout the islands. He informed the Chairperson in most of the families, both the parents are earning members and are forced to leave behind their little children under the supervision of maid servants. As a result these children's upbringing is affected, which may, in future, even adverse affect on the society.

These PCC leaders also requested for granting excess fund to Social Welfare Board for introducing and conducting various awareness programmes and also to consider enhancing honorarium to those workers who are engaged by SWB . Ms. Cariappa gave a patient hearing and assured to look into the matters. Smti Ratna Kannan, Chairperson, SWB had also joined the leaders during the meeting.
