Port Blair, May 20: The PCC President Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the Lt Governor for considering opening of examination Centre for CSIR UGC NET-JRF examinations at Port Blair. In his letter Sharma has written that like CTET, examinations for CSIR UGC NET-JRF are also conducted twice in a year by Human Resource Development Group, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, New Delhi. This examination is the pre-requisite examination for getting selection as Lecturers in Science Group. Due to non availability of a Centre at Port Blair, the aspirants are unable to appear in this examination since for appearing in this examination, they have to proceed to mainland, which is much costly for the students and their parents with a meagre income.

Sharma has also stated that the passed out students of Class XII, who could not get chance for MBBS or Engineering courses etc, opt for further studies in the local colleges with Science subjects with a hope for the posts of Lecturers after passing out post graduation. But since they need to pass the CSIR IGC NET-JRF examination for getting appointed as Lecturer, most of them feel helpless for want of a centre at Port Blair.

Sharma has also recorded his gratitude to the Lt Governor for his consideration of opening of Centre for CTET examination in these Islands for the aspirants, who want to serve the islands as teachers, and has earnestly requested to consider a centre for conducting examination of CSIR UGC NET-JRF at Port Blair.
