Part time Employees allege betrayal by the Administration

Port Blair, May 31: The Member of the Parliament Shri Bishnu Pada Ray has strongly objected the move of the Director Education related to the issue of engaging the Part Time Employees.

‘Last year the Director stunned everybody when he cancelled the contract of the employees, who had been serving this department for the last 30 years. There were 465 Part time employees who had been serving in different capacities as Part time aayaa, Pre Primary Teacher, Part Time Craft Instructor and Sweeper cum chowkidar etc. This was a massive blow to the employees. They felt cheated’, said the MP.

On listening to their grievances the MP Shri Ray took up the issue and a big dharna was staged in front of the Directorate, under his leadership. Later The Chief Secretary asked the Director in the meeting to re-engage the employees without any Pre condition. It was then assured by the director that their services would be continued.

The President of the Part Time Education Employees Union Shri Krishna Rao told the media today that only 60 to 70 candidates were selected through the interview, and rest of the disappointed employees had no option left than to come on road in despair. This year too, the director has published an advertisement, inviting applications for the empanelment of the Part time employees.

Reacting to this move, the Ray who is on visit to Middle Andaman said, ‘The step taken by the Department is absolutely inhuman and cannot be tolerated. He said that the services of the employees working for the last many years should be continued without any condition, else a mass agitation campaign would be launched against this autocratic decision.
