Port Blair, June 6: The Member of Parliament Shri Bishnu Pada Ray has strongly objected the move of the Directorate of Education to curtail the posts. Talking to the media, Ray said that the Directorate is trying to Re-allocate 350 posts to the other Islands, giving reasons that these posts are surplus at Port Blair. If this happens, 350 no. of posts would be curtailed, which would be very unfortunate thing. He said that there are hundreds of qualified un-employed youths who are waiting for a call of employment. But the employment crises would increase if the posts are curtailed. He said that the Administration should try to fill up the existing vacancies or create new ones to address this problem of un-employment.

On the issue of the Transfer Policy, the MP said the department should frame a transparent transfer Policy. Appreciating the policy adopted by the Police department, he said that the police employees are transferred for a period of 10 months only in hard areas like Nicobars, which is very psychological. On the other hand the teachers in the Education department are posted for an indefinite period. The uncertainty brings stress and trauma among the teachers who are given the serious responsibility of making good citizens. He has asked the Administration to confine the transfer tenure for one academic session. In his letter, he also referred the assurance of the Lt. Governor given recently in a meeting of representatives of the Teacher’s Association, in which he told that the tenure should not be more than one session in hard areas like Nicobar.

Expressing his unhappiness over the poor results in class XII this year, the MP said that the head of the department should take the moral responsibility of this dismal performance. He said the department is spending Crores of Rupees in the name of improving quality of Education, every year, but could not produce the expected results.

The MP reiterated his demand to constitute an advisory committee comprising the eminent retired Educationists who can guide the department to bring quality in Education in real sense.
