Port Blair, June 7:  In what can be said as ‘Ignorant attitude’ on the part of the concerned authorities, a naturally grown tree inside Aberdeen Village has been posing danger to the school going children and to the residents alike. The Peepal tree is located adjacent to the Kamraj English Medium School (Primary), with its branches falling on live electric wires jumbled up beneath it.

Upon being intimated about this ‘invited threat’ and ignorance of the concerned, Andaman Chronicle on inspecting the spot found portions of the tree branch fallen over the live electric wires, connecting the houses nearby.

“The tree has become a nuisance for the residents posing threat, especially to the small children of Kamraj School who can be seen playing under the tree”, explained a resident.

“We have tried our level best to inform the authorities through letters and verbal communication about this invited trouble, but our voices seem to fall in deaf ears”, he said.

With the arrival of monsoons in the islands, heavy rains, high wind speed with thunder and lightning is being experienced all over. There are recorded incidents of trees falling on the road, live electric wires, houses and so on. In some cases even the Hon’ble Lt. Governor had to intervene by providing compensation to the family of the persons who died due to tree fall.

Such being the situation, it can be hoped that concerned authorities would treat this as urgent and make immediate arrangements atleast to chop down the branches posing serious threat to residents and small school going children.
