Port Blair, June 11: A protest was staged by the students of Govt. Sr. Sec. School Manglutan today, demanding upgradation of Arts Stream in Bengali Medium. The students took to the streets as a mark of protest, shouting slogans to fulfil their demands.

The School has three mediums of learning i.e. Hindi, Tamil and Bengali. While the Directorate of Education had introduced Arts in Class XI & XII, the medium of learning was restricted to Hindi. Due to this, students of Bengali Medium were either forced to study in Hindi Medium in the same school or shift to Rabindra Bangla Vidyalaya.

The protest started today at 7.30 am and was over by 10.30 am after the Director of Education (I/c) Dr. R. N. Prasad reached the spot and assured to look into the issue. The Member of Parliament, Shri Bishnu Pada Ray had also reached the spot after he learnt about the strike.
