Port Blair, June 12: The Andaman & Nicobar Command was tasked to  retrieve the body of a Seaman from MV Nicobar who had fallen overboard at about 2000 hours on 10 Jun 13 at Haddo berth. At about 2100 hrs Port Defence Headquarters of the Naval Component monitored communication on MMB that a man had fallen overboard from MV Nicobar and immediately activated all concerned. The Navy activated resources from Naval Flotilla, Clearance Diving Unit and Central Medical and Inspection Room for the contingency. Indian Navy also mobilized naval tugs to move MV NICOBAR to anchorage to facilitate diving operations.

Diving operations commenced at 2230 hrs with the Police Diving team standing by in support.  After a concerted search in the Area for over an hour and half, the body was recovered at 2355 hrs and handed over to the A&N Police.

The jointness and synergy among the Andaman & Nicobar Command, A&N Police and the Port Management is indicative of high standards of preparedness is crucial and Civil Military liaison of this nature can be crucial in crises /contingencies such as disasters/accidents, said a communication from the Andaman & Nicobar Command.
