Port Blair, June 24: The BJP Unit of Diglipur in the presence of Shri Bishnu Pada Ray, Member of Parliament staged a Dharna on 21st June 2013 in front of Assistant Commissioner’s Office Diglipur, protesting against the careless approach in disbursement of old age pension  to aged people.

The senior citizens of Diglipur area had complained to the MP during his visit there that the old age pension and other pensionery benefits to other sections of people are not being disbursed in time. This leaves the old age people, who primarily survive on the meagre pension amount, to suffer and starve.

Taking a serious view over the issue the BJP party leaders of Diglipur and the MP along with scores of old age people staged a dharna and demanded timely reimbursement of pension amount. Large number of general public also participated in the dharna protest.

During the protest dharna the old aged people of Kalighat alleged that they have not been disbursed old age pension since January 2013 from A&N Cooperative Bank Ltd.

Ridiculing the Bank’s approach, Ray pointed that elsewhere publicity is being done that the cooperative bank is delivering the old age pension and other pensions at the door steps. But the ground reality is in contrast of the big claims of the cooperative bank.

Ray also demanded that a scheme for issue of 10 kg of Rice in a month, and clothing including two dhoti and Saree in a year be implemented in the islands in line with the scheme of Tamilnadu government for the benefit of old aged people.
