Port Blair, June 24: Shri Bishnu Pada Ray, Member of Parliament, A & N Islands, who is currently on a visit to Diglipur observed certain problems of the people residing in the island and has invited the attention of administration for their early resolution.

Ray observed that the children studying in class IX to XII in different schools in Diglipur particularly those who do not come under BPL Category have been deprived of free books and other basic educational aids this year.  He pointed that per capita expenditure on every student is about Rs. 47,000/- in the islands under the Plan/non-plan and other allocations.  Despite such high expenditure on record on every student, it is unfortunate to know that even the basic facility of textbooks or educational aids are not being extended to students who hail from poor background. The MP has thus urged the administration that the students of IX to XII be provided free books and other aids immediately.

Further condemning the withdrawal of free bus pass system to students, Shri Ray urged that the free bus pass system which existed earlier should be restored for the benefit of students immediately.

Taking an inquisitive note of the electric supply crises prevailing in Diglipur area, Shri Ray demanded that an immediate attention needs should be given by the Electricity Department to resolve the same at the earliest. He observed that the people of Diglipur are facing untimely and erratic load shedding problem since last many days, which makes the life horrible for people living in remote villages.

The Member of Parliament also visited the agriculture dominant villages of Diglipur, which were badly affected during the incessant rain that occurred during the last couple of weeks. After taking a stock of the situation, Ray has demanded for assessment survey of the agriculture land in Diglipur and elsewhere and for appropriate compensation to the farmers who have badly affected due to damage of crops and vegetables following flooding and stagnation of water in their farm land.
