Port Blair, June 26: The PCC President, Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the Lt Governor to consider distribution of 10,000 laptops to the students from Class VIII to Class XII in the current academic session.

Sharma in his letter to the LG wrote that time has come when the Education Department must take care of educating all the students of these islands in information technology at least from Class VIIIth onwards. Giving theoretical education will not serve the purpose if the students do not have practical experience, Sharma  said while suggesting that the education department should provide basic infrastructure like laptop to every students irrespective of the schools.

The PCC President also briefed the LG that fibre cable connecting Singapore to Chennai through these islands will be introduced in near future. This will open up opportunities for employment. In such case A&N Administration must educate the students of these islands in information technology by providing all infrastructural facilities so that job opportunity in the sector will not get drained to outside the islands.
