Car Nicobar, July 8: In the Challenger’s Trophy Football league cum Knock out Tournament being played at the Mus Cathedral Ground, the teams of Malacca and Lapathy won their initial matches of the league.
In the fourth match of the league, Malacca defeated the less experienced school boys’ team of Sport Authority of India by 3-0, yesterday. Obedia scored 2 goals and Philip scored one for the winners. Though in the second half the SAI team did show some resistance and the striker Earnest built up some impressive attacks but could not convert them into goals.
The Secretary of the organizing team from Mus Sporting Club, Mr. John Milton informed that total 6 teams from the different villages of Car Nicobar are participating in this Rolling Trophy. Total 15 matches are to be played on round robin league basis and teams securing 1st and 4th position will clash in the first seminal whereas the team getting 2nd position will play against the number 3 team of the league rounds in the second knock out.
The participation of many Ex-players of Subroto Cup, in this tournament has made this trophy very popular. Everyday large number of Football lovers from all over Nicobar can be seen at Mus ground to enjoy the Matches.
