Port Blair, July 10:  Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma, PCC President has once again placed the demand for increasing MBBS seats from allotted quota of 15 to 40 for the students of this islands through his letters to S/shri Sushil Kumar Shinde, Union Home Minister and  Shri Gulam Navi Azad, Union Health Minister.

Referring his meeting held on 4th June, 2013 at New Delhi and his earlier correspondences the PCC President has reminded the Union Home Minister Shri Sushil Kumar Shinde for enhancing the quota of MBBS.

Sharma stated that out of 400 Schools of A&N Islands, average 7500 students pass out successfully each year in their class XII examinations conducted by CBSE and due to scarcity of allotted quota of MBBS seats many meritorious students are not considered for those 15 seats.

He also requested to release the enhanced quota at an early date as the counselling of already allotted seats of MBBS will start by the A&N Administration soon.

Quoting that Shri Ghulam Navi Azad, Minister of Health’s has proposed to increase MBBS seats in the Country by allowing government and recognized private medical colleges to do so as one-time measure, Sharma stated that as per this proposal, total 18450 MBBS seats will be made available in the 369 Govt Medical colleges of mainland. Accordingly Sharma has again requested the Home Minister to consider his proposal of enhancing quota of 40 numbers of MBBS seats from the already allotted 15 numbers seats to the A&N Administration
