Long Island, July 16: In an untoward incident that occurred at Long Island last Saturday, a couple died on the spot after being electrocuted by the live wire that passed their house.

The incident took place on 13th July 2013 in between 11-12 noon, when Sarita Kumari Dhanwar, 33 was drying clothes on a metal rope tied on a bamboo pole outside her house. The wet clothes somehow touched the live electric wire (Service Line) that ran parallel to the rope she was drying the clothes and within fraction of seconds Sarita got electrocuted.

Hearing some noise, Sarita’s husband Shri Anand Kishore Soreng, 36 rushed out of the house. Noticing his wife getting burnt, he took a wood piece and managed to separate Sarita from the wire. Sources inform that the live wire fell down but the ill fated Anand could not sense that the wire was still live and tried to push it away. In the process, Anand too got electrocuted. The couple succumbed to their injuries on the spot, leaving behind two school going children.

The post mortem of the deceased was held the next day and the last rites conducted on the same day.

Late Anand and Sarita have left behind two school going children, Master Akshay Soreng, 12, a student of Class VII and Miss Sakshi Soreng, 8, a student of class IV. The children are now forced to stay with their old grandparents at Long Island who have limited source of income.

It is learnt that Late Anand had two brothers, the younger one is unemployed while the elder brother who worked in Delhi Police had died some time ago due to illness at New Delhi.

The only hope for the two children to survive is some relief from the Administration, to ensure a future to the ill fated.
