DC Nicobars Asked to Prepare Comprehensive Plan For Developing Fisheries/ Packaging As Cottage Industry

Port Blair, July 17: The Lt Governor, Lt Gen (Retd) A K Singh, PVSM, AVSM, SM, VSM, visited Car Nicobar and paid floral tributes at the Tsunami Memorial at Big Lapathy. He also visited the Mus Church and paid tributes at the Bishop John Richardson Memorial.

During his visit, the Lt Governor interacted with members of the Tribal Council and on the occasion released the Crisis Management Plan developed by the Nicobar District Administration. The Lt Governor also inaugurated the Island Recreation Centre at Perka and inspected the gymnasium there. He inspected the houses constructed under the Tsunami Rehabilitation Plan (TRP) and also visited the Bee-Hive Hut/ traditional houses of the Nicobari community at Chukchucha and interacted with the residents there.

The Lt Governor has asked the Deputy Commissioner (CN) to prepare a Comprehensive plan for developing fisheries including canning and packing as a cottage industry. He also appreciated the offer of the traditional boat race at Port Blair/ Havelock in December.

Earlier, on arrival at Car Nicobar, the Lt Governor was given traditional welcome by the people there. The Chief Secretary, Shri Anand Prakash and other senior officers of the Administration accompanied him during the tour.
