Port Blair, July 22: The Transport Department has cautioned all the autorickshaw drivers against not operating the fare meter and charging higher fare from the commuters.

The Secretary (STA) has stated that it has been observed that mostly the fare meters are kept switch on just to show the Police personnel. The department has, on many occasions, directed the autorickshaw drivers to charge the notified fare from the commuters on the basis of the fare recorded in the fare meter but in many cases no tangible result has been found.

In view of this, all the autorickshaw drivers have been directed to strictly put on the fare meter in the beginning of a particular journey and charge the fare as per the fare recorded in the fare meter. Violation of not following the meter fare will be viewed seriously and stringent action as per the provision of rules would be initiated.
