Port Blair, July 23: Smt Punya S. Srivastava, Commissioner-cum-Secretary (Transport) today inaugurated the State Transport Control Room (STCR) at the Motor Workshop Campus. Speaking on the occasion the Chief Guest appreciated the initiative of the department in setting up the Control Room as part of department’s effort to improve delivery in service including redressal of public grievances and better use of human resource.

The Chief Guest hoped that the Control Room would also cater to Motor Vehicle complaints and that a complainant would also be called back to update on status once the grievance/ complaint has been redressed.

Welcoming the Chief Guest, Shri G.L. Meena, Secretary-cum-Director (transport) highlighted various initiatives taken by the department such as  procurement of 62 mini buses, 8 long chassis buses, free bus passes to students, passes at nominal rates for general public, training to drivers, highest coverage in the country for HSRP, increased employee satisfaction on account of timely ACPs, promotions etc.

It was further informed that for the present the Control Room shall function from morning 6.00 AM to night 10 PM, which more or less covers the normal time of operation of buses by the department. However, during the times of crisis / disaster, the STCR shall be functioning round the clock.

Any person can lodge a complaint or grievance with the control room on issues related to Transport department. Initially he may have to provide his contact number so that once the grievance complaint is redressed, the same can be informed to him.

It was also informed that the department intends to build on this initiative & develop the Control Room as a part of Intelligent Transport System (ITS) with state-of-the-Art communication & tracking facilities. Further, the department is also taking up the matter for getting a toll free number in due course.
