Port Blair, July 28: The Animal Science Division of  Central Agricultural Research Institute in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Port Blair and Directorate of AH & VS, A & N Administration conducted a one-day awareness programme on “Status and Control of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) in cattle” at Badmas Pahad village of Chouldari Gram Panchayat on 26th July, 2013.

The Chief Guest Dr. S. Dam Roy, Director, CARI, in his address insisted the farming community to come forward and co-operate with the Veterinarians to check any incidence of FMD in this islands. He also advocated to have a sensitization programme for Para-Veterinary staffs on FMD. He concluded his speech by applauding the efforts of Gram Pradhan and other PRI members for bringing large number of dairy based farming community for the programme.

Dr. A. Kundu, Head Division of Animal Science, informed that our islands is free from most of the deadly diseases which are quite common in mainland and to maintain the status, a proper quarantine measures to be strictly followed in this Island.

Dr. Jai Sunder, Sr. Scientist and PI of the FMD project gave a brief report on Status and Control of FMD in cattle. He highlighted the importance of such awareness programme which will  curb down any prevalence of FMD in this island.

Dr. Asim Roy, S.V.O., Port Mout, Directorate of AH&VS, A&N Administration Port Blair, highlighted the importance of vaccination programmes and informed that 14 such vaccination camps for FMD have already been completed in this Island from Directorate of AH&VS. He assured the farmers all the possible support of his department for betterment of livestock based farming community.

Shri L. Brojendra Singh, Programme Coordinator Incharge, KVK informed that activity of Krishi Vigyan Kendra of Animal Science discipline is in collaboration with Veterinary Hospital, Port Mout , Directorate of AH&VS, A&N Administration Port Blair for conducting health camps in Port Mout village for  the betterment of livestock based farming community.

During the technical session Dr. Jai Sunder, Dr. Abhay Kumar Singh, Subject Matter Specialist (Veterinary Science.) Dr. N.C. Chudhuri, T-6 (Animal Science) also spoke on various aspects on Foot and Mouth Disease.
