Port Blair, July 29: The Prefects Swearing-in-ceremony of Mahatma Gandhi International School was held today at the school campus, wherein Shri Sowketh Hussain, Dy.SP Marine and Asst. Commander IRBN was the chief guest.

The ceremony started with lighting of the traditional lamp, followed by Awarding Insignias to school Appointees by the Chief Guest and the Oath-taking by the Prefects. The leaders of the prefectural board and the students’ council repeated the pledge read by the Principal, to up hold the name of the institution and maintain discipline and to discharge their duties honestly and impartially, lead in the right way and uphold the honour and dignity of the school. The Oath taking was followed by the pinning of badges.

The Chief Guest Shri. Sowketh Hussain speaking on the occasion elaborated on the various ways and means to bring out the best in the students. He also elucidated on the moral values and told the students and staff to spread such values both within and outside the institution.

The head boy Nawaz and head Girl Supriya Verma revealed the unforgettable experiences they went through in the school. Paraphrasing the former President of the United States of America J.F. Kennedy, Nawaz, Appealed to the students, “Don’t ask what the country can do for you, but think what you can do for the country”.

The ceremony came to an end with high tea served for the Teachers and appointees with the Chief Guest. Earlier Smti. Lalitha in her welcome address emphasized on the importance of the ceremony.
