Port Blair, Aug. 1: TheCommunity Food & Nutrition Unit of Port Blair in coordination with the Directorate of Social Welfare organized a symposium on disseminating correct norms on infant & young child feeding   practices and feeding during emergency IMS Act. The symposium was held at Mazar Pahar Community Hall today.

On this occasion Smti Vinitha Malhotra, Ward Councillor was the Chief Guest and inaugurated the symposium by lighting the traditional lamp. In her address she advocated about the family and community support to help enhance breast feeding and complimentary feeding.

Dr. Avijit Roy, Deputy Director (Health) who was the resource person spoke about the disadvantages of bottle feeding and about IMS Act and various other policies regarding maternal and child health.

Dr. Shaheen N. Kaura, Paediatrician, G.B. Pant Hospital also spoke about the importance of breast feeding.

The Principal of ANM School Smti. Freeda George spoke about diet regarding pregnancy and importance of complimentary feeding.

Earlier Smti. Suma Sreedharan, Demonstration Officer of CFNEU Port Blair elaborated on the theme, “Breast feeding support –close to Mothers”.  Smti Zarina Bibi, CDPO (Urban project) spoke about the role of Anganwadi workers and importance of ICDS Services.

The CFNEU Port Blair will be conducting lecture cum demonstration in coordination with ICDS Ferrargunj project on 2nd Aug. 2013.
