Port Blair, Aug. 1: The PCC President, Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the Lt. Governor to reduce the tariff of Andaman Guest Houses located at Kolkata, Chennai and Delhi. Sharma wrote that the Guest houses have been constructed for the welfare of the islanders who usually proceed to mainland in cases of need.

The PCC President briefed the LG that, at present the rates per room per day is Rs. 1000.00 while the rates of per bed has been kept as Rs. 500.00. Prior to revision of tariff, islanders were charged Rs. 100/- per bed for non official stay. For persons proceeding to mainland for treatment, emergency, admission in colleges or native places or to attend any other important works, paying such an exorbitant room tariff, is causing additional undue financial burden on them which is apart from the heavy travelling cost.

Sharma has thus requested the LG to restore the room tariff to Rs. 100/- per bed per person and in case of single person occupying a room he may not be charged to pay for both the beds.
