Car Nicobar, Aug. 3: The Workshop cum training programme for the Graduate Trained Teachers of Mathematics and Science subjects began at the Conference hall of the Education Office today.

Inaugurating the workshop, the Chief Guest, Education Officer Shri H. Nathaniel said that this kind of workshop helps the teachers to share their views on the different aspects of the teaching subjects.

In the present scenario the teachers have to update their knowledge to face the students in the classrooms, he said. Emphasizing the need of using Information and Technological tools in the class rooms, he said that through smart classes the teaching can be made very effective and student friendly.

Talking about the present status of the School Education in Car Nicobar, Nathaniel said that the students do not show interest in learning Mathematics and Science, generally. They are afraid of these subjects. The Socio-economic background is another factor which affects the studies of the students, he said. The EO suggested that interest can be created among the students if the teacher presents the subject matter, in a very simplified way, keeping in mind the Educational standard of the child. He called upon the teachers to dedicate themselves for the educational upliftment of the poor children, taking extra remedial measures.

Earlier the Coordinator of the workshop Shri B.D. Singh explained about the various activities to be undertaken in the 5 day long workshop. He said that the task of Mathematics teacher in the class is very challenging, as the subject is not very popular among the students in this region. He asked the teachers to make use of the workshop.

Around 20 teachers of Mathematics and Science from the different schools of Car Nicobar are taking part in the workshop.
