Port Blair, Aug. 5: Five persons have been arrested for gambling at an abandoned building in Phoenix Bay in the evening hours on Sunday 4th Aug.  An amount of Rs. 56,675/- of gambling cash has been seized from them.

On receipt of a secret information, a Police team of PS Central Crime Station comprising of Insp. R.K. Sharma, SHO CCS, SI Usman Ali, SI N. Zainuddin, HC K.O. Vargese, PCs S. Baroi, Laxman, Sujit Dutta, N.C.Sarkar,  Amit Khalko and Arindam Mirdha, and HGs Shahir Ali and Shanmukh Rao conducted a raid at an abandoned building on Sea Shore Road near Fisheries Zonal Office and apprehended 5 persons namely (1) M. Rajendran (38), r/o Junglighat (2) Ishwar Das (36), r/o Pahargaon  (3) Laxman (37), r/o Junglighat (4) Moung Noe Aye (53), r/o Aberdeen Bazaar and (5) Sernus Bara (41), r/o Junglighat from the gambling den. Rs. 56, 675/- (Fifty six thousand six hundred seventy five) was seized from them. All five persons were arrested on the spot under Andaman & Nicobar Gambling Regulation 1956.

Two of the arrested persons, Moung Noe Aye and Sernus Bara, being police personnel, have been placed under suspension with immediate effect.
